Patch Tuesday Windows 11

It is the second Tuesday of April 2022, and if you are one of Microsoft’s followers, you already know what it means. Microsoft has released a cumulative update KB5012592 for Windows 11 for all users to benefit from. Installing this update would upgrade your operating system’s build to 22000.613.

This release does not bring any new features to the operating system, as they are much likely anticipated with the release of Windows 11 22H2. However, it does bring along a lot of fixes you probably didn’t know you needed. It also addresses several security vulnerabilities that keep your system safe from external exploitation.

That said, as with any cumulative update, there are still some known issues that may need addressing in future flights.

Fixes and Improvements in KB5012592

Since this is a cumulative update, only the updates not included in the prior flights will be installed if you have already installed them.

KB5012592 includes all the fixes and improvements offered in KB5011563, which was released as an optional “Type C” update just 2 weeks ago. Apart from those, an additional improvement is the inclusion of security patches to address system vulnerabilities.

Known Issues

Microsoft is currently only aware of one issue with this release.

Any recovery discs created after installing these updates using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) feature may not work. This issue does not only apply to this release but to any updates released after the Windows 11 January 11, 2022 update.

Microsoft also adds that the recovery discs created before installing the mentioned updates are not affected. However, there is currently no fix for the problem. Microsoft is working on this issue and intends to fix it in a future flight.
