What’s New in Microsoft Edge 103
Several new features have been added to the Edge browser in this release, most of which are focused on the gamers as Microsoft wanted to make Edge the one-stop solution for web gaming.
We’re building a platform for the next 20 years that offers the games players want on any device they want to play. Our teams throughout the company are continuing to collaborate to deliver awesome gaming experiences across devices, whether you like to play on your Xbox console, Windows PC, phone or tablet.
Microsoft
Homepage for Gaming
Microsoft has developed a dedicated gaming home page for people who are interested in esports. This page displays a personalized news feed and other information, such as live streams, game highlights, tournaments, and upcoming and newly released games.
If you are signed into Edge using your Xbox account and have an Xbox Game Pass ultimate membership, then you can even start playing your favorite games using Xbox Cloud Gaming right within the Edge browser.
Now you also get quick, one-click access to casual games, such as Solitaire, Jewel, etc. absolutely free!
Microsoft has also launched a dedicated games menu which is integrated right into the sidebar. Here, you can play the legacy and classic games for free.
Clarity Boost
Clarity boost is a feature in Edge that enhances the graphics quality of even the high-end games using a set of client-side scaling improvements. It makes the graphics more realistic and crispier.
Clarity boost can be enabled or disabled in-game with Xbox Cloud gaming, bringing more life to the game itself. To toggle the feature, open the menu by clicking on the ellipses (3 dots) in the top-left corner of the browser.
Note that this feature will only work if you are using a Windows 11 or Windows 10 operating system.
Efficiency Mode
Microsoft has introduced a new “Efficiency Mode” in the Edge browser. Unlike the Efficiency Mode in the Task Manager, enabling this mode enhances your system’s performance to give you the best experience while gaming.
When the feature is enabled, you will experience much faster and smoother gameplay. When you are done playing, closing the game will automatically restore the default settings.
Furthermore, you can also control when this mode is enabled so that you do not drain your battery if you’re using a laptop.
To enable/disable Efficiency Mode, navigate to the following:
Microsoft Edge Settings >> System and performance
Here, choose the option best suited for your gaming pattern from the drop-down menu in front of “Turn on efficiency mode when.”

Download Edge 103 Installers

Use Portable Edge Chromium Updater
If you are using Edge’s portable version, it will not update on its own. For that, a small tool known as Portable Edge Updater is available on GitHub, which allows you to install or update the existing Microsoft Edge Chromium to the latest build available. You can also use this tool to download the x64 and x86 versions from all channels, including the stable channel and the 3 channels from Edge Insider.
Download the tool by opening the Portable Edge GitHub page and then clicking on the link provided by Portable.Edge.Chromium.Updater….7z.
The tool is then downloaded. Extract it and then run the .exe file. Inside the tool, click on the channel and bit architecture you want to download (the versions are also mentioned). In this case, we will download Edge version 103 from the stable channel.
The browser will then begin to update (or download). Once done, you can check if the Microsoft Edge Chromium portable 100 is now available on your device.

Final Thoughts
Even though Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are both Chromium-based, it seems like Edge is taking the lead in terms of performance and optimization. With the new features introduced in Edge 103, we believe that it will eventually become the hub for web gamers unless the competition makes some drastic changes to their web browsers.
