Windows 11 Build 25193 Rolls Out With Braille Support For Narrator And Xbox Subscription Management

The Dev channel for Insiders has been updated with Windows 11 Build 25193. This update brings some new features with the primary focus on people with disabilities as well as gamers. It also includes a set of improvements and fixes for the Windows 11 operating system.

New in Windows 11 Build 25193

Xbox Subscription Management in Settings App

Microsoft is now adding the ability to manage your Xbox subscriptions directly from the built-in Settings app. If you are a member of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass for Console, or Xbox Live Gold, you will now be able to see your subscription details and manage it via Settings app >> Accounts.

From there, you can upgrade your subscription package, redeem gift cards, etc., without having to log into your Microsoft account using a web browser or turn on your Xbox.

Note: Microsoft intimates users that since the feature is being rolled out gradually, not everyone who upgrades to this build can see this change immediately. But rest assured, it will make its way to the Insiders on the Dev channel.

New Braille Displays in Narrator

Microsoft has introduced new Braille displays as well as new input and output languages for the Narrator. The new Braille displays supported by the Narrator now include the APH Chameleon, the APH Mantis Q40, the NLS Reader, and many more.

However, there are a few things that need to be done before you can make use of this new support:

1. Uninstall previous Narrator Braille support (if installed).
2. Install the new Narrator Braille support.

Here are the steps to do so:

1. Start by removing the current Narrator Braille support. To do so, navigate to the following path:

   Settings app >> Apps >> Optional features

2. Under Installed features, search for “Accessibility – Braille support.” Expand it, and then click Uninstall.

   

   It can take a moment for Braille to uninstall.

3. Once the current Braille support is removed successfully, add the new one. To do so, navigate to the following:

   Settings app >> Accessibility >> Narrator >> Use a Braille display with Narrator

4. Click Download and install Braille.

   

5. Once Braille is installed, restart your computer to finalize the installation.

   However, if you use Narrator as well as third-party screen readers, then you must set the appropriate driver version. To do so navigate to the following path again:

   Settings app >> Accessibility >> Narrator >> Use a Braille display with Narrator

6. Here, click Add a display driver, and then add the appropriate driver recommended for the third-party screen reader.

Other Improvements and Fixes

Other changes and fixes have also been made with this flight:

• [General]
  • An issue causing enabling .NET Framework 3.5 from the Windows Features dialog to not work in the previous build is now fixed.
• [Taskbar]
  • A fix has been made so that the taskbar overflow will now use the same accent color as your taskbar.
  • A couple of issues that were leading to sporadic explorer.exe crashes related to the taskbar overflow are now fixed.
  • An issue related to the widgets entry in the taskbar that was causing the taskbar icons to appear to drift around sometimes in the previous flight has been addressed.
  • An issue for Insiders with at least two monitors, if the monitors had different DPI, the taskbar overflow could appear before it was needed or end up overlapping with the date and time on the secondary monitor, is now fixed
  • An issue where the taskbar overflow flyout might appear floating away from the taskbar if you opened it after a display scaling change has been addressed.
• [Start]
  • An issue that was causing unexpected characters to show instead of an apostrophe in the tooltip for the Sleep option in the Power menu is now fixed.
  • An issue that could lead to the Start menu crashing on launch for some people when Search Highlights was enabled is fixed.
• [File Explorer]
  • If the taskbar is set to auto-hide and File Explorer is maximized, hovering your mouse on the bottom of the screen to invoke the taskbar should work now.
  • An issue when dragging and dropping a folder to pin it to the navigation pane, that the line indicating where it would be inserted didn’t have enough contrast in dark mode, has been taken care of.
  • An issue where the search box background in File Explorer might be the opposite color of your current mode (for example dark in light mode), is now fixed.
  • An issue where File Explorer would appear to open, close, and re-open before it finished drawing after being launched from certain places has been fixed.
  • An issue where certain files couldn’t be unpinned from the Favorites section of Home after you’d pinned them is addressed.
  • A fix has been implemented to help address UI issues when switching between dark and light mode if the File Explorer window was open when you switch.
  • A GDI objects leak has been fixed which occurs when resizing the navigation pane in File Explorer, which could potentially lead to content in File Explorer not rendering correctly over time for Insiders who resized the navigation pane frequently.
  • Some improvements have been made to help the performance of loading Home when using a cloud storage provider, like OneDrive, to back up your files in File Explorer.
• [Settings]
  • An issue causing the Storage page in Settings as well as Disk Cleanup to crash in the scan phase for some people is now addressed.
  • An issue where URIs to open pages under the Accounts section of Settings wasn’t working for some people has been fixed.
  • An issue leading to app icons not displaying correctly under Privacy & Security >> Voice activation is mitigated.
  • A Settings crash when uninstalling apps using Apps >> Installed apps is fixed.
• [Other]
  • An issue that could sometimes cause a ShellExperienceHost.exe crash when you stopped casting to another display or switched to duplicate your display is fixed.
  • Added a warning to findstr if Unicode input is detected, to make it more clear if that’s why results aren’t returned for certain files.
  • An issue in recent flights causing the lines to not be included when printing tables from certain apps has been addressed.
  • An issue in recent flights which could lead to hangs in certain apps is fixed.

With these new features, improvements, and fixes, there are also known issues with this flight.

Known Issues

• [General]
  • Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause your PC to bugcheck.
  • There are reports that the audio has stopped working for some Insiders after upgrading to the latest flights.
  • There are reports of a few different apps having started crashing in recent builds.
  • There are reports that some Insiders are experiencing bugchecks when moving their mouse in certain games.
  • There are reports that some Insiders are seeing OneDrive setup asking for permission to set up every time their PC reboots.
• [File Explorer]
  • There are reports that a small set of Insiders with “launch folder windows in a separate process” are unable to open File Explorer after last week’s flight.
  • There is an issue where command bar items like copy, paste, and empty recycle bin may unexpectedly not be enabled when they should be.
• [Widgets]
  • The notification badge number may appear misaligned on the taskbar.
  • In some cases, the notification banner for some badging will not appear in the widgets board.
  • There are reports that the weather isn’t displaying correctly in the taskbar for some Insiders, with missing text and the weather icon raised too high.

Should You Update?

Considering the new features, improvements, and fixes, as well as the issues in this flight, we recommend that it is safe to install this update as long as your work on your computer is not audio-oriented.

Some insiders not being able to hear any audio after upgrading to the recent Dev channel builds is an issue that has been there for the last few flights. If you haven’t been affected by those, there is a high chance you won’t be affected by this release either.

How to Install Windows 11 Build 25193

To install this update, you need to be running Windows 11 and subscribed to the Dev channel. If you have enabled Windows updates, you will automatically get a “New features are ready to install” prompt.

If not, follow these steps to install the update:

1. Navigate to the Settings app and then click Windows Update on the left.

2. Here, click Check for updates on the right side of the window.

   

3. You will then see the following update available under Updates available to download:

   Windows 11 Insider Preview 25193.1000 (rs_prerelease)

   Click Download and install in front of it.

   

4. Once the update downloads and installs, click Restart Now to finalize the installation.

   

Once the computer restarts, you can verify that the OS has been updated to the build specified by typing in winver in the Run Command box.

Rollback/Remove Windows 11 Insider Preview Update

If you do not wish to keep the installed preview update for some reason, you can always roll back to the previous build of the OS. However, this can only be performed within the next 10 days after installing the new update.

To roll back after 10 days, you will need to apply this trick.

Cleanup After Installing Windows Updates

If you want to save space after installing Windows updates, you can run the following commands one after the other in Command Prompt with administrative privileges:
