Note that this update is for the original Windows 11 release (21H2). Installing this update upgrades the operating system’s build to 22000.1163.

What’s New in Windows 11 Build 22000.1163

The following list of improvements has been introduced with this update:

  • Improvements have been made to Windows search results and performance.
  • The Task Manager option has been added to the context menu when you right-click the taskbar. This feature will be rolling out gradually.
  • An issue that affects Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) authentication hardening has been fixed. Windows will automatically raise the authentication level for all non-anonymous activation requests from DCOM clients to RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY.
  • A DCOM issue that affects the Remote Procedure Call Service (rpcss.exe) has been addressed. The authentication level raises to RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY instead of RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_CONNECT if RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_NONE is specified.
  • An issue that affects the Microsoft Azure Active Directory (AAD) Application Proxy connector is addressed. It could not retrieve a Kerberos ticket on behalf of the user. The error message displayed was “The handle specified is invalid (0x80090301).”
  • An issue that affects scheduled Native Image Generator (Ngen.exe) tasks on devices that have certain processors is addressed.
  • An issue that affects certificate mapping is fixed. When it failed, lsass.exe might stop working in schannel.dll.
  • An issue that causes an OS upgrade to stop responding, and then fail, has been fixed.
  • An issue that affects a task you schedule to run every two weeks is now fixed.
  • An issue that affects Microsoft Direct3D 9 games is taken care of. The graphics hardware stopped working if the hardware did not have a native Direct3D 9 driver.
  • An issue that affects the font of three Chinese characters is fixed. When you formatted these characters as bold, the width size was wrong.
  • The graphical issues in games that use Microsoft D3D9 on some platforms are fixed.
  • An issue that affects Microsoft Edge when it is in IE Mode is fixed.
  • An issue that affects Microsoft Edge IE mode has been addressed. It stopped you from opening web pages.
  • An issue that affects input method editors (IME) from Microsoft and third parties is fixed. They stopped working when you closed the IME window.
  • An issue that affects the lasso tool in a graphics editing program is fixed.
  • An issue that affects a universal printer has been addressed. You could not reinstall it after removing it.
  • An issue that creates a duplicate print queue is fixed. Because of this, the original print queue stopped working.
  • An issue that affects some drivers has been taken care of. They used more power when you play hardware-protected Digital Rights Management (DRM) content.
  • An issue that affects driver installation on certain hardware is addressed. You could not see the display of the progress of the installation.
  • An issue that affects the Clipchamp application that is in the Windows 11 SE edition is addressed.
  • An issue that affects .msi files is fixed. Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC) would ignore them when you disabled script enforcement.
  • An issue that affects a remote desktop Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) scenario has been addressed.
  • An issue that affects File Explorer on a remote desktop (RD) session host is fixed. File Explorer would stop working.
  • An issue that affects the button style BS_PUSHLIKE is addressed. Buttons that have this style are difficult to identify against a dark background.
  • An issue that stops the credentials UI from displaying in IE mode when you use Microsoft Edge is addressed.
  • An issue that affects the Server Manager has been fixed. It used to reset the wrong disk when several disks have the same UniqueId.

With these fixes, no known issues have been disclosed by Microsoft.

How to Install Windows 11 Build 22000.1163

To install this update, you need to be running Windows 11 21H2 and subscribed to the Release Preview channel. If you have enabled Windows updates, you will automatically get a “New features are ready to install” prompt.

If not, follow these steps to install the update:

  1. Navigate to the Settings app and then click Windows Update on the left.

  2. Here, click Check for updates on the right side of the window.

  3. You will then see the following update downloading and installing automatically:

    When it installs, click Restart now to finalize the installation.

Once the computer restarts, you can verify that the OS has been updated by typing in winver in the Run Command box.

Rollback/Remove Windows 11 Insider Preview Update

If you do not wish to keep the installed preview update for some reason, you can always roll back to the previous build of the OS. However, this can only be performed within the next 10 days after installing the new update.

To roll back after 10 days, you will need to apply this trick before the end of the 10 days.

Cleanup After Installing Windows Updates

If you want to save space after installing Windows updates, you can run the following commands one after the other in Command Prompt with administrative privileges:
